Maryborough was settled in 1847 and proclaimed a city in 1905.

Maryborough was the port for wool, timber & sugar exports and the supply centre for the Gympie Goldfields whilst also operating as an immigration port for Queensland.

Approximately 22,000 European migrants arrived via the Port of Maryborough from 1859.

Merchants established themselves and Maryborough developed into the business hub of the Wide Bay. Many of these early business people have been immortalised in stone such as Saleams 1895 Manchester House, Fred Monsour 1901 Silk Merchant and J M Monsour 1908. Yareds and many others have faded with time.

Today a new breed of business person has entered the Maryborough CBD to once again re-establish Maryborough as the fashion capital of the Wide Bay.
